ZDAEMON

The gaming world, since Doom, has evolved immensly. As it's hard to keep up, online gamers tend to stick to the newest technology. So why do so many people still log on to the Internet to compete with others in Doom, a game that is more than a decade old? My answer: don't jinx it. (Update: better answer)
First, an introduction. ZDaemon is a program based on the ZDoom engine that hooks up Doom players around the world to play deathmatches, co-operative games, and even capture the flag. Someone will host a server, that is, a game set up to the server host's preferences with a set number of how many people can play and/or watch (spectate), and people connect to the host's server and play.
Some servers host enhanced Doom games, with slopes and other weird things like that. But most of the servers are just classic Doom with all different wads being played.
A very cool feature that ZDaemon has is public records that store information on how many frags (kills) and deaths a player has gotten, even how many frags a player has gotten with each weapon. There is also a system of levels and experience points a lot like that of many RPG's.
Vocabulary:
• BFG lamer - A person who darts for the BFG and goes nuts. BFG lamers are annoying as hell as they make it impossible to stay alive and play. Also know as a BFG whore.
• Spawn point - A point where you spawn (come back to life) after dying.
• Camper - A person who grabs a powerful gun, runs to a corner, and holds down the trigger. This word is never used as a compliment.
• Spawn camper - A person who stands by a spawn point with a powerful gun and waits for some poor guy with nothing but a pistol to spawn, so he/she can get a cheap frag. Also known as an asshole.
• Frag - A kill. A point. A score. When you kill someone, you get one frag. When you kill yourself, you lose a frag. At the end of the game, the person with the most frags is the winner.
• Tourney - A tournament, that is, a one-on-one game.
• Double kill, multi kill, ultra kill, and monster kill - More than one kill in a short amount of time. Double=2, multi=3, ultra=4, monster=5+.
• Killing spree, rampage, domination.... - Like the Unreal Tournament games, these mean you have gotten a certain number of kills without dying. Killing spree=5, rampage=10, domination=15, unstoppable=20, god like=25, wicked sick=30+.
• Ping - Pretty much a measurement of lag. A smaller number is better.
• Pea shooter - Pistol.
• Boomstick - (single barrel, non super) shotgun.
• SSG - Super shotgun.

Tips:
• Don't be an ass - Unlike a lot of other games, ZDaemon doesn't have a different mix of people on all the time. You will definitely run into the same people all the time, as there are some real hardcore Doomers. Eventually, you'll get people greeting you every time you join a game... if you're friendly. There's a reason they call it the Doom community. Remember, these people have the same interests as you - Doom, computers, online gaming... otherwise they wouldn't be on ZDaemon. Talk to people!
• Fight laming with laming - If you're in a tourney and your opponent would put down the damn BFG, throw away the principles and fight back! Don't let a BFG lamer take all the frags.
• Be a good sport - At the end of a game, don't say "[name of winner] IS TEH SUXORZ GAY CAMPER LAMER" or anything else along the lines of idiocy. As with almost every online game, most people say "gg," which is an acronym of "good game."
• Don't be a BFG lamer, spawn camper, camper, or anything else annoying - Make ZDaemon enjoyable for other people. It's not worth it, being an ass for the right to say "pwn."

You know you kick ass at ZDaemon when:
• You get double kills in tournaments.
• You stop taking screenshots when you get first place in games.
• You switch from super shotgun to shotgun because you like the sound it makes.
• Your BFG frag percentage is less than 10%.
• You wonder why it stops at monster kill.

You have my word that ZDaemon will always be completely free. Do not
worry about that.
