WADS (REPLACEMENT LEVELS)

Bored with Doom? Try some of these replacement levels. These are the megawads (wads that have many levels) that I like the most, I didn't include any I don't like. To see a large database of wads, small to large, utterly horrible to legendary, click here.
Click here to see instructions on loading a wad into Doom. To find out what a wad is, click here.
All these wads work with the original Doom or Doom 2 executables.

Single-Player Wads

Hacx
INFO

Size: 9.2 MB
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1-20, 31
Hacx is a TC (total conversion) of Doom 2. The gameplay kicks ass. The sound kicks ass. The weapons kick ass. The enemies are... pretty dumb. Other than that, Hacx is the greatest Doom addon I've ever played. It's unbelievable. The makers of Hacx payed id Software $5000 to be able to sell Hacx. A copy originally cost $15, and is now freeware. To play Hacx, unzip the contents of the zip file into your Doom 2 directory and open hacx.exe.

Requiem
INFO

Size: 3.8 MB
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1-32
Requiem is by far the best freelance replacement Doom wad I've ever seen. It has lots of original ideas. Get the whole stroy (for every level) here.

Hell Revealed 2
INFO

Size: 2.5 MB
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1-32
Better than Hell Revealed 1, and better than most other wads I've seen, Hell Revealed 2 is absolute ass-kickery. It is right about on the same level as the original Doom 2 wad.

The Scientist 2
INFO

Size: 4.1 MB
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1-20SP, 21-30DM
The Scientist 2 is a great set of fun, challenging levels. There are "new" weapons, but the only things that make most of them new are the sprites and sounds.

The Darkening episode 2
INFO

Size: 4.4 MB
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1-12SP, 13-24DM
The Darkening 2 is a good single-player wad, even if it is a little hard. The deathmatch maps are good as well.

Memento Mori
INFO

Size: 8.3 MB It's worth it!
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1-32
Memento Mori is a fantastic wad... although you can get stuck at times... pretty much assume that everything is a lift. MM is pretty much on the same level as the original Doom 2 wad, so it's a great replacement.

Mars War
INFO

Size: 2 MB
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1-32
Mars War is an amazing wad. It really shows off what the Doom engine is capable of. Go to level 30, you'll laugh your ass off.

Dimensions of Time
INFO

Size: 940 K
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1-32
Dimensions of Time is one of the best wads I've seen. Very addictive.

Hell Revealed
INFO

Size: 2.2 MB
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1-32
A good wad if you know the cheat codes. Hell Revealed is known for its insane difficulty.

Realm of Chaos
INFO

Size: 1.6 MB
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1-32
Realm of Chaos is a very original and well-done wad for Doom 2. The text file says it works for Macintosh, but I haven't been able to test it.

Cyberdreams
INFO

Size: 920 K
Works With: Doom 2 v1.9
Levels Replaced: 1-32
This wad has a really original idea: every level has a Cyberdemon that you have to kill by telefragging it (teleporting on top of it) or by crushing it. A lot of fun and a real challenge.

Biowar
INFO

Size: 1.8 MB
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1-18, 31
Biowar is a really well-done Doom 2 wad with a lot of new graphics and sounds. Biowar uses a lot of original ideas to make Doom more realistic.

Demonfear
INFO

Size: 740 K
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1-32
Demonfear is a really great wad. The level design is very clever and fun. Check it out.

ChrisWAD v6.1
INFO

Size: 1.8 MB
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1-20SP, 21-30DM
The level design in this wad is great, but the sounds are extraordinarily annoying. You can remove them with a wad editor like WinTex.

All Hell is Breaking Loose
INFO

Size: 2.6 MB
Works With: Doom 2 v1.9
Levels Replaced: 1-5
All Hell is almost a new game. It has new weapons, monsters, sounds, and graphics. It is extremely fun, and it's too bad the weapons in All Hell weren't in Doom. The setup is pretty complicated, unless you're using ZDoom, in which you can just type all the wads and the dhe file into the command line. If you're not, the zip comes with instructions on setting All Hell up. Definitely recommended.

1337
INFO

Size: 1.2 MB
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1-28, 30-32
Good for a laugh, and possibly bulimics.

10 Years of Doom
Image not available
INFO

Size: 250 K
Works With: Doom 1
Levels Replaced: E3M4
This is a wad for Doom that celebrates the 10th birthday of Doom (12/10/03). I couldn't get it to work, maybe because I have Ultimate Doom.

Zombies
INFO

Size: 2.2 MB
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1-12
Zombies is a good wad with a lot of new enemies, graphics, sounds, and weapons. Check it out.

Nuts
INFO

Size: 47 K
Works With: Doom 2
Levels Replaced: 1
196 Zombiemen.
219 Shotgun Guys.
1426 Imps.
1394 Heavy Weapon Dudes.

Have fun!

(Note: I can only get this wad not to crash with PrBoom.)

Dwango5

Dwango5 is simply the best deathmatch wad. Ever.

Dwango6
INFO

Size: 950 KB

Dwango6 is okay. I don't recommend it over Dwango5, but I do recommend it in addition to Dwango5.

TNT Blood
INFO

Size: 1 MB

TNT Blood is definitely one of the best deathmatch wads I've ever seen. Get it.

Gothic DM is a 32-level wad of complex (and small) deathmatch levels.

Brit10 is great for those hectic whose-damn-rocket-was-that deathmatches.
